St. John has long been known as one of the most beautiful, peaceful, and amazing of the three main islands that make up the USVI (United States Virgin Islands). It is also a very small island, about two-thirds the size of the Dallas airport. Here are three reasons why you should make St John your home.
Customs and Tax Regulations
When you are living in St John, you also become privy to certain customs benefits in terms of goods you can take with you back to the mainland. You will be allowed to take $1,600 worth of duty free goods. You can also take a total of 5 bottles of liquor or 6, if one is locally made. Cigarettes are also easy to transport back to the mainland. You can take 10 cartons or 100 cigars for personal use or to give as gifts.
Mail and Travel
When you live and travel between the mainland and St John you do not need a passport. If you buy property in the USVI, all you need is a picture ID issued by the government.
If you need to send or receive mail to or from family, friends, or businesses, you will enjoy the same rates as you would on the mainland.
Weather
If you are trying to escape from the cold in the dead of winter or if you live in the desert and you want a more temperate climate, St John is definitely the choice for you.
The temperature in the summer is about 82 to 90 degrees, while cool winters offer 77 to 84 degree weather. One of the great things about being on the island is that the southeastern tradewinds in the summer and the northeastern “Christmas” winds in the winter ensure that you are always comfortable.
St John is a great place to live, whether for a few weeks a year or year around.
